Let’s Get Started: FAQs
What is your rate?
Clients can choose to pay anywhere between $100-200 per session, taking into account financial circumstances, frequency of sessions and level of need. No income verification is required. Lower rates may be available in limited circumstances. Contact me for more info!
Do you accept insurance?
I am not contracted with insurance. While insurance can be a useful tool to access care, I have learned in my previous experiences with insurance and therapy that insurance companies don’t have my clients’ best interests in mind. I believe the conversation about the therapeutic process should be solely between the therapist and client in order to protect the flexibility, integrity and confidentiality of the relationship. We are happy to help you access your out of network benefits and provide a superbill for possible reimbursement from your insurance provider - contact us to ask about how we can help!
What services do you offer?
I offer individual counseling for adults and teens (ages 14 and up). Please note, I do not see families or couples together (with exceptions for teen/youth clients needing parent support, depending on the circumstances). If you are in need of couples or long-term family counseling, I am happy to make referrals to qualified providers.
We also offer an Adult ADHD Art group every other Sunday and every other Wednesday. Groups are facilitated by me and my business partner, a professional artist and teacher with over 10 years of behavioral health experience.
Do you only see LGBTQ+ clients? Or only people with religious trauma?
My specialty and area of expertise is with LGBTQ+ individuals, their families and allies. Most of my clients are lesbian, gay, bi/pansexual, transgender, nonbinary, genderfluid, 2 spirit, poly, or questioning. However, since 2008 I have worked with folx from all walks of life around trauma, depression, anxiety, bereavement and ADHD-related symptoms and more. In our initial consultation we will determine if I am a good fit for your needs.
Do you offer virtual or in office therapy?
Yes and yes! For virtual sessions, I use a HIPAA-compliant platform (SimplePractice). For in-person services, my office is located in Phoenix at Central and Thomas (exact address available on request)
During your initial consultation, we will discuss whether in-person or virtual counseling services would best meet your needs.
What is your treatment approach?
Counseling with me encompasses Narrative Therapy and Humanistic/Person-Centered (Rogerian) Therapy. I describe my approach to sessions as a “structured conversation,” with movement toward turning empathy and compassion inward so that we can start to make the changes we want to see. Sometimes we simply need space to be heard, supported and to know we are not alone.
My approach de-centers pathology with a non-linear, holistic view of the human experience. We talk about systemic oppression and the narratives that keep us stuck. All of my work is trauma informed, and I work at a pace that feels safe for each client.
What diagnoses do you work with?
Quick note: as a de-pathologized/decolonized practice, I do not heavily emphasize diagnoses in treatment. However, I understand that diagnoses can be a useful tool for understanding our experiences, and for accessing services such as work or school accommodations, emotional support animals and out of network insurance benefits (among many others).
The most common disorders I see in counseling are depression and other mood disorders (like bipolar disorder), anxiety, PTSD, C-PTSD, gender dysphoria, and ADHD (including late-diagnosed or not-yet-diagnosed Adult ADHD). Most of my clients are neurodiverse. A good number of my clients are Autistic Spectrum, though I am not specialized in ASD specifically. Religious Trauma Syndrome is not a formally recognized DSM-V diagnosis; however, it is a known cluster of symptoms and experiences that I see often.
Do you offer weekend or evening services? What are your hours?
Yes! I am proud to offer weekend and evening services, sometimes as late as 10pm. I work most weekdays plus every other weekend, with evenings on Wednesdays, Thursdays and every other Friday. See my schedule for availability.
My hours of availability will vary depending on the day - please reach out and we will find a time that works for you.
I generally respond to voice messages, texts and emails between the hours of 10am and 8pm Monday through Friday. Due to a high volume of spam calls, along with not taking calls during sessions or when I’m with my kids, I typically do not answer but please text or leave a voicemail. Please allow 24 hours for a response.
I am unavailable for emergent/crisis circumstances. Please utilize your support system whenever possible. Other resources include calling the Warmline 602-347-1100 or texting the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline at 988, Other options that do not involve nonconsensual emergency rescue (aka “calling the police” or 911) can be found here.
