Let’s Get Started: FAQs

What is your rate?

Effective Aug 2024: Session rates for individual counseling are dynamic/negotiable, depending on client need. Please see our info regarding session fees here.

Do you accept insurance?

I am not contracted with insurance. While insurance can be a useful tool to access care, I have learned in my previous experiences with insurance and therapy that insurance companies don’t have my clients’ best interests in mind. I believe the conversation about the therapeutic process should be solely between the therapist and client in order to protect the integrity and confidentiality of the relationship. We are happy to help you access your out of network benefits and provide a superbill for possible reimbursement from your insurance provider - contact us to ask about how we can help!

What services do you offer?

I offer individual counseling for adults and teens (ages 14 and up). Please note, I do not see families or couples together (with exceptions for teen/youth clients needing parent support, depending on the circumstances). If you are in need of couples or long-term family counseling, I am happy to make referrals to qualified providers.

Do you only see LGBTQ+ clients? Or only people with religious trauma?

My specialty and area of expertise is with LGBTQ+ individuals, their families and allies. However, since 2008 I have worked with folx from all walks of life around trauma, depression, anxiety, bereavement and ADHD-related symptoms and more. In our initial consultation we will determine if I am a good fit for your needs.

Do you offer virtual or in office therapy?

Yes and yes! For virtual sessions, I use a HIPAA-compliant platform (SimplePractice). For in-person services, my office is located in Phoenix at Central and Thomas (exact address available on request)

During your initial consultation, we will discuss whether in-person or virtual counseling services would best meet your needs.

What is your treatment approach?

Counseling with me encompasses Narrative Therapy and Humanistic/Person-Centered (Rogerian) Therapy. I sometimes describe my approach to sessions as a “structured conversation,” with movement toward turning empathy and compassion inward so that we can start to make the changes we want to see. Sometimes we simply need space to be heard, supported and to know we are not alone.

My approach de-centers pathology and treatment plans and takes a non-linear, holistic view. We talk about structural oppression and the systems that keep us stuck. All of my work is trauma informed, and I work at a pace that feels safe for each client.

What diagnoses do you work with?

Quick note: as I move in a more holistic direction and a de-pathologized/decolonized practice, I plan to rework this section. For practical purposes, however, the information below is the best answer I have for now. This section will be updated soon.

The most common disorders I see in counseling are depression and other mood disorders (like bipolar disorder), anxiety, PTSD, addictions, eating disorders, and ADHD (including late-diagnosed or not-yet-diagnosed Adult ADHD). Most of my clients are neurodiverse. Religious Trauma Syndrome is not a formally recognized DSM-V diagnosis; however, it is a known cluster of symptoms and experiences that I see often.

Do you offer weekend or evening services? What are your hours?

Yes! I am proud to offer weekend and evening services, sometimes as late as 10pm.

My hours of availability will vary depending on the day - please reach out and we will find a time that works for you.

I generally answer the phone and/or respond to voice messages, texts and emails between the hours of 10am and 8pm.
